I consider myself lucky to dive into albums that strike a chord with me, and naturally, I adore them. It’s more than just a fondness; it’s a genuine connection. Perhaps it’s a means of nostalgically recalling the days of flipping vinyl and immersing in both sides of the record. Alternatively, it could be viewed as a beneficial endeavor for practicing my writing abilities. Nonetheless, this is my domain, my gig and I relish every aspect of it.

I’ve been lucky enough to witness this band’s energy on two occasions—first aboard the Flogging Molly Salty Dog Cruise, and later at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz. Their live shows not only match but often exceed their studio recordings, immersing you in an experience that feels truly transcendent. So here we go!
Pet Needs delivers a punch with their latest album, “Intermittent Fast Living,” a blazing collection of 11 tracks that are pure punk rock satisfaction. Brace yourself, because once this speeding train starts, there’s no stopping it. It’s clear from the get-go that this band is destined for greatness, with a sound that feels too big for the stages they currently grace.
Their fusion of anti-anthems and manic energy, poetic lyricism, and raw punk power, as evident in tracks like “How Are You?” and “Separation Anxiety,” showcases a maturity beyond their years. Pet Needs effortlessly captures the angst and humor of youth, reminiscent of the early days of the Violent Femmes. It’s a sound that hits you right in the gut, making you nod along in understanding.
But it’s not just about the lyrics; Pet Needs’ musicianship is equally impressive. The ebb and flow of the music, complemented by solid guitar work and dynamic drumming, creates an exhilarating experience. Tracks like “Burning Building” feature memorable guitar riffs and impressive shredding, leaving no doubt about the band members’ artisanship .
Yet, amidst the fun and humor, there’s depth and emotion lurking beneath the surface. Songs like “Buried Together” that made me stop for a moment, showcasing Pet Needs’ ability to tackle the human condition with honesty and vulnerability.
Overall, Pet Needs is a force to be reckoned with, and “Intermittent Fast Living” is just the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable journey. Keep an eye on this band; they’re destined for great things.
